Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide educational programs for group study on topics selected by and for the membership.

Goals

LIFE@UCF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit equal opportunity organization, a community educational program for people of retirement age in the Central Florida area who thirst for continued learning.

Programs

There are a variety of topics in a relaxed learning environment. Course presenters include faculty and staff from UCF, other area institutions and the Community.

LIFE Holds GALA Celebration for 25th Birthday.
On February 2nd LIFE members were treated to a special event in recognition of 25 years of classes at UCF. Guest speakers and panelists included UCF President John Hitt, Roger Landry,M.D., MPH, author of the book "LIVE LONG, DIE SHORT", and Marc Middleton and Bill Schaffer from the radio and TV program "Going Boulder". A 25th Celebration video plus photographs from the event can be viewed by clicking on the "LIFE's 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration" tab above.

Dr Tucker was honored at the event for his 25 years of service to LIFE as the UCF liaison. In addition to receiving a recognition plaque, it was announced that a special FUND RAISING DRIVE has been established in his name that will support increased funding to the annual Richard Tucker Gerontology Applied Research Award program, and will create annual student scholarships for UCF students working towards a gerontology minor. LIFE BOARD APPROVES MEMBERSHIP INCREASE TO 650 FOR FALL 2016 CLASSES
Based the attendance record over the past years the membership committee recommended and the LIFE board approved increasing the LIFE membership limit to 650 starting with the 2016 fall semester. Even with this increase in membership waiting time for new application will still remain over one year. The present waiting list is over 350 and it continues to increase.

LIFE BREAKS RECORD FOR FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS
Thank you to all LIFE members who donated to the Knights Helping Knights food pantry. A total of 1022.5 pounds of food was collected from our membership, along with $5,000 in donations, making this our largest and most successful collection yet. Special thanks to Lynn Trivett, who organized and coordinated the food drive, as well as LIFE volunteers Ross Williams, John Gardepe, and Kimmy Trivett who assisted with collection. These donations will make a big difference for needy UCF students.

NEW SHUTTLE SERVICE
A Shuttle Service for LIFE members is offered every Tuesday to assist members in getting to the Student Union for class sessions. Busses will run from the LYNX Transit center at the first Bay on Route 7 from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. After class the shuttle will run from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. Park at garage A or I to take advantage of this service. NEW DIRECTOR OF THE INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES DEPARTMENT
The new Director is Dr. Claudia Schippert, Assoc. Prof. of Humanities and Religion, Department of Philosophy, who joined the UCF faculty in 2001. We welcome Dr. Schippert and look forward in working with her. The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies sponsors LIFE at UCF. Their continued support is critical to the LIFE at UCF program.
